With all extravagance, the wedding carnival is at its peak. The much awaited bride is all set to steal the show. Amid the vision of wearing trendy necklaces and bangles, a piece of classic nose ring always sets the charm.
The significance of the nose ring lies beyond just ornamentation, the practice of wearing it dates back to the Vedic age and supposedly makes any pain related to pregnancy and periods bearable. Nose rings in India are worn either on the nostril, septum or the bridge of the nose.

With such massive cultural acceptance across different regions, the nose rings have seen a lot of variations and cultural influence in its design. Below are the lists of top 13 nose ring design as per the regions of India:

Northern India:

• Latkan:

 This nose ring is a type of plain metallic chain with decorative charms all over resembling a type of charm bracelet. The design is made as such the highlight is more on the metallic chain part rather than the nose ring itself. Another most common type of Latkan is called ‘Bullag’ which is a pendent suspended from the septum.

• Punjabi Nath:

 Very popular in Punjab, the design primarily has a medium or large hoop with little or no charms along the periphery that goes up along the metallic chain connecting the nose ring to the hair. One of the most popular bridal jewelry in India, Punjabi Nath is considered as a heavier version of the Nathni.

• Laung:

 Inspiring many Bollywood lyricist, laung is a clove shaped nose stud popular in most parts of North India. Commonly made of gold or silver and studded with precious or semi-precious stones, laung can be worn not only on a wedding but also on other special occasion as well.

• Fan shaped nose ring:

These are the most intricately designed nose ring which perhaps depicts the cultural significance. They are popular in parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand.

• Spoked nose ring:

Popular in parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the spoked nose ring is circular shaped with a series of continuous spokes running along the periphery. They are designed as such the nose ring falls on the lips, covering half the mouth.

Southern India:

• Mukhuttis:

 Mukhuttis, as known in the regional language, is a light weight nose pin worn mostly by the brides of Konkan and Goa. However, they are worn in Kerala and Karnataka as well with a little extravagance— where the brides choose to wear it on both the nostrils.

• Nose Stud:

 Traditionally worn by most brides on both the nostrils, nose studs normally consists of either two or three diamonds intricately detailed to give a more authentic South Indian appeal. The practice of wearing a nose stud is age old and the design speaks more of the cultural significance.

• The Pullaku:

 This nose ring is usually worn on the septum or the lower part of the nostrils. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes without much of embellishments involved. They are mostly worn solo or clubbed with other nose pin.

Western India:

• Nathni:

Nathni is a popular hoop nose ring mostly worn by brides from Gujarat and Rajasthan. They are usually made of gold or silver and are sometimes decorated with little precious or semi-precious gem stone which is connected to the hair with a long delicate metallic chain.

• Maharashtrian nath:

Worn by the top notch Bollywood brides, Maharashtrian nath is popular across India for its unique cashew nut shape. They are mostly made of pearl, beads and other colourful stones to serve every pellete.

• Konkani Stud:

Konkani studs are quite abstract and are inspired by the elements of nature, the studs are made in motifs of fish, bird etc., and embellished with precious or semi-precious stones. Though gold and silver are the common metals used in design, yet every Konkan jewelry reflects simplicity and minimalism in it.

• Designer Nose Ring:

Designed especially for the red carpet and popularized by Vidya Balan and Sonam Kapoor; the Canne Film Festival saw some dramatic nose ring designs in diamonds and white gold that can also be a good alternative for any Indian bride.
