U just needs to tell them the budget and the type of wedding u want and they come up with miraculously awesome ideas to make your dreams come true right from the venue to the menu, invitation cards, decorations, everything..
Weddingplz had a word with Mr. Parth Gupta, the owner of Wedlocks, where he told us about how, when and where these Wedding Planners can be helpful for us.. See what he said in the interview:
1. Tell us a bit about yourself and your company & How did you get into wedding planning?
Well I am a graduate from the University of Exeter, pursued Business & Management, along with Event Management.
After finishing my graduation from London, my father took me to an extremely lavish and happening marriage of the town, which was indeed a clever move to revive my Indian senses. I ate more than my petite belly, which was partly full by the quantity of food and partly by fighting my way to the counters.
On my way back home, I was feeling pity for the bride’s father to invest his hard earned money into my food plate cost, whereas, I did not even see the bride or the groom, or even know them personally…
This thought caught me for about a month or so, and I realised that even I have a sister!
I see my mother bargaining with small vendors to save a few rupees.
Thus, the concept of Destination Weddings came into being where you only entertain or invest in those who really matter.
2. What’s your favorite part of the job?
Creating a specialized concept, in relation to the cultures of the bride & groom’s family, is the most challenging, at the same time the most mesmerizing part of Wedlocks. The end product is such a beautiful creation that all the hard-work in the making just gets submerged in the concept.
3. What is your current favorite color combination? Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to experiment with?
Personally, I am a white person. I feel almost everything can be made spectacular with royal White. There are such interesting and amazing variations that can be played with white, which honestly is only possible if the client leaves the Décor part, totally on our imagination and gets truly spell-bound at the show time.
4. What are some of the craziest thing you’ve planned for your clients?
We had a wedding of a Jain Family and their wedding was destined in Dubai. What they wanted was 100% pure vegetarian food with NO ONION OR GARLIC.
Wedlocks made that possible by preparing the entire food in a separate kitchen, we took our own Indian chef who supervised the food, some of the masalas were also taken from Delhi.
And that to in a classic 5 star resort. To be honest that was possible only because of our concept of holding destination weddings only in those particular destinations where we have strong tie-ups/relations with the hotel/resort.
We feel until and unless you have complete control over the hotel, you cannot hold a successful Indian wedding, since our weddings are a “one of a kind”.
At Wedlocks, we understand the sweat of hard earned money and so; the concept of Indian Destination Wedding came into being. We abide by our vision and thoughts. And so we guarantee a royal wedding ONLY, for your friends and family.
5. Which are the best Indian locations for a wedding party?
Udaipur is, as every single individual knows, the most famous hub for destination weddings and it truly justifies.
Goa, Jaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer are some other destinations which are renowned and Wedlocks also have a tight control over the management and execution of an Indian wedding.
6. Is an Indian wedding all about the bride? What about the groom?
A wedding that to a destination wedding, is an amalgamation of thoughts, coming from the bride, her mother, the chacha, the groom’s sister and many other relatives. But from my personal experience, the wedding is truly the bride’s reflection; the groom is more of when it comes to technicalities.
7. In India, weddings have always been a big “family business”. How do you manage mothers, aunts, grandmothers, ….?
During the course of planning, we always take care of the elderly. We have special plans in terms of their seating, walking, eating and of course their suggestions.
8. How do you handle last-minute demands or fiascoes (if any) at a wedding venue?
The key is to have good relations with the hotel you are conducting a wedding. Now suppose, a wedding that requires around 125-150 rooms, if the planner books a hotel with a room inventory of 200+, he/she has called for last minute problems. Naturally, in such a hotel there would other travellers staying in for their leisure, therefore, the hotel is not entitled for the flexibility that an Indian Wedding requires. This is where the wedding planner’s experience comes in. Wedlocks holds a 23 year experience in the wedding industry.
9. Perceived cost is something that holds back couples from working with a wedding planner. What would you tell brides and grooms about it?
What I feel is that a destination wedding is always a very wise decision. Not because I am in the business, but because of its concept. I mean, you call around thousands of people for a wedding that you conduct in the homeplace, say New Delhi. And how many actually come up on the stage and give blessings to the couple?
We are very detailed about each and every costing. So, the client knows the ins and outs of where the money is actually going.
I love the entire concept of destination wedding. It is a lavish way to explore a different place altogether especially for the attendees 🙂 Glam pics. Best wishes to Wedlocks
