Born into a legacy of selling textiles through three generations of experience, Delhi based designer Akshay Wadhwa was always destined for the fashion industry. His namesake brand, Akshay Wadhwa was founded in 2009 and has since then become synonymous with Fusion. Tapping into the vast and rich heritage of the subcontinent, AW reinvents contemporary high fashion by incorporating the traditional Indian wear with coeval European designs, capturing the Indian imagination with an international flourish. His designs are inspired by a very Eurocentric vision which is adorned by Indian embellishments which give them decadence and a feel of luxury.
Akshay Wadhwa became familiar with women’s garments at a very young age due to the family business but his passion was always design. He studied at the JD institute and NIFT and then went abroad to study at the Istituto Di Europeo Di Design in Milan where he had the opportunity to work with major fashion house brands and, even developed an entire collection during Milan Fashion Week at the age of 23. Despite his early debut in Italy, Akshay chose to head back to India instead of a joining a major European fashion house to pursue his dream of establishing his own brand. Today, Akshay has developed a couture and prêt-à-porter exclusive lines, and caters to clients throughout India and across the globe in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, London and Dubai.
