The Beginning

Senco Gold and Diamonds is a company with a legacy of over five decades. The Company was originally incorporated as Senco Gold Private Limited on August 22, 1994, at Kolkata, West Bengal, under the provisions of the Companies Act, 1956.

Subsequently, pursuant to a resolution passed at the meeting of the Board of Directors held on June 27, 2007, and a special resolution of the Shareholders at the EGM held on August 8, 2007, the name of the Company was changed to Senco Gold Limited, pursuant to its conversion into a public limited company. A fresh certificate of incorporation dated August 31, 2007, consequent to the change of name, was issued by the RoC. The Company was converted to a public limited company in order to expand its activities in the field of the jewellery business.

The Visionaries

Shaankar Sen, aged 60 years, is the Chairman and Managing Director of the Company. He holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Calcutta. He has been associated with the Company since its inception and has over 35 years of experience in the jewellery industry. Prior to joining the Company, he was associated with Senco Jewellery Mart. He has been conferred with various awards including the “GJTCI Excellence Awards” by the Gem and Jewellery Trade Council of India in 2016.

Suvankar Sen, aged 34 years, is the Executive Director of Senco Gold & Diamonds. He holds a bachelor’s of science in economics from the University of Calcutta. He also holds a post-graduate diploma in business management from the Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad. He has been associated with the Company since 2005 and has over 13 years of experience in the jewellery industry. He has been awarded the “XIA Business Leader of The Year 2018” by SXC Calcutta Alumni Association South Chapter.

With Shaankar Sen’s experience and Suvankar’s dynamic approach towards business, Senco Gold & Diamonds experienced sustained growth. From INR 15, 315.19 million in the fiscal year 2016, the revenue grew to INR 22, 140.18 million in the fiscal year 2018. Presently the company has its presence across 14 Indian states, having over 90 showrooms in 72 cities and towns.

The Geographical Spread

Having its roots in Kolkata, West Bengal, Senco Gold & Diamonds has strategically expanded to 14 states across India. Senco Gold & Diamonds has 48 Company Operated Showrooms and 45 Franchise Showrooms located across 72 cities and towns in India with an aggregate area of approximately 255, 284 sq. ft. Out of the 93 showrooms, sixty are in West Bengal, six are in Uttar Pradesh, five are in Odisha, four are in Jharkhand, three each are in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Assam, two each are in Bihar and Delhi, respectively; and one each in Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Tripura.

Over the years, Senco Gold & Diamonds has been the proud recipient of numerous awards and accolades. In 2014, the Company was conferred the Leading Retailer of India award by UBM. This was followed by Gem Of The Year (Central – East) by All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation in 2015 at the National Jewellery Awards. In 2016, Senco Gold & Diamonds was ranked as India’s 5th Most Trusted Jewellery Brand by The Brand Trust Report (India Study). As far as awards are concerned, 2017 was even a better year. In 2017, Senco Gold & Diamonds received the Certificate of Appreciation that recognized the Company as a Symbol of Excellence at the Economic Times Iconic Brands of India awards.
