Ohaila was born in Bombay with fashion running in her veins. She realized her ambition in life was to be a fashion designer at the tender age of 6. Her father, who is an exporter of couture embroidered garments and worked with all the biggest fashion houses from London, Paris, Milan and New York, was her biggest inspiration and the strongest fashion influence in her life. She gained a lot of exposure to the fashion world and has been attending couture shows since an early age which further fascinated her with this world and strengthened her ambitions. She began developing embroidery samples designing clothes for herself as a hobby during her schooling days which was her first tryst with designing. She also had a keen interest in art and canvas painting.
After completing her junior college she went on to complete her graduation in design and marketing at The London College of Fashion- UAL. These were the four most enriching years of her learning where she traveled for fabric fairs, attended fashion seminars, learnt about research, converting inspiration to design, pattern cutting, draping, trend prediction and a lot more. It was during this period she also did a design internship with British Couturier Lindka Cierach who designs for British and Middle Eastern royalty. On her return to India she joined ace Bollywood designer Manish Malhotra and worked under him as an assistant designer on fashion shows and production for one and a half year. She also worked in her father’s company as a design director researching and developing new and innovative embroidery techniques and artworks, creating swatches for the likes of Giorgio Armani, Elie Saab, Versace, Monique Lhullier, Marchesa and Roberto Cavalli to name a few.
However since it was always her dream to start her own independent label, her next step was just that. Her label is a true reflection of her love for her Indian roots and culture. She believes that India is a gold mine of the richest embroidery, weaves, prints, and crafts with some of the most talented karigars and artisans in the world, which she loves incorporating in her work. Under her label she designs a prêt collection as well as a couture collection comprising of both traditional Indian as well as European luxurious evening gowns.
