"I discovered the joy of photography back in ’83 when cameras were still not shipped to India officially. My first camera was an Olympus OM-1 and some of my fondest memories are walking through the streets of Bombay as a young college graduate, befriending taxiwallahs and ear cleaners as I took my first portraits.
In 5 years the young street photographer had buried his commerce degree and turned into a professional. I worked as an advertising photographer, for 20 years shooting for some of Mumbai’s best agencies on products ranging from ITC’s Sundrop and Amul ice cream to Voltas air conditioners and Bombay Dyeing fabrics. And I continued to take to the streets in my spare time, and also share the joy of photography through teaching in media institutes.
My forays into wedding photography began in 2008, when one of my students, Preeta, approached me to take candid shots at her wedding. And i’ve been shooting weddings ever since.
My preferred style is candid, but there are times when I use the ‘un-candid‘ style, as I like to call it, because it does make for better pictures. While I take the liberty of directing the couple, the romance is always real. I enjoy the entire wedding, but I’d have to say the pre-wedding shoot and the rituals are what I look forward to the most."
